What is certain, however, is that a dense, dark, or very colorful design can mask the appearance of new moles or the evolution of existing lesions, making clinical examination less reliable for a dermatologist. Which areas should be avoided for a tattoo?
Certain body areas present specific risks that are worth knowing before making a decision.
It is not recommended to get tattooed over a mole, not only for aesthetic reasons but because the tattoo can mask the evolution of a lesion and delay a melanoma diagnosis.
Areas with particular skin risk include folds (elbow, knee, armpit), where friction and perspiration favor infections and inflammatory reactions, and sun-exposed areas (hands, neck, face), where pigment degradation due to UV rays is faster.
